I’d Vote For Oprah

Now before you take out your pitchforks or tar and feather me, hear me out!

I’m not saying that Oprah would be my first choice for President in 2020. Not at all. I hope that we can get someone to run against Trump that has actual political experience (*cough* Michelle Obama *cough*). If it came down to someone like Oprah versus Donald Trump, though, I’d definitely be going with the former.

I’ve seen quite a few people say how that would be such a bad idea because we already had one celebrity in the White House and another would be just as bad. That line of thinking is incredibly flawed.

The reason Donald Trump is such a terrible President is not because he’s a celebrity.

The reason Donald Trump is such a terrible President is because he’s a fundamentally terrible human being.

He’s a racist. He’s a known sexual assaulter. He’s mentally unstable (despite claiming otherwise and being “like, really smart”). These are all qualities that have reared their ugly heads when it comes to his policy.

Instead of focusing on real issues in the country, he’s spent most of his time in office disparaging prominent black figures on Twitter or straight up calling for them to be fired from their respective jobs. In between those Twitter fights, he has decided to get into a nuclear pissing contest with probably the only person on the planet who is even more unstable than he is.

All of these negatives have nothing at all to do with the fact that he’s a celebrity. They have everything to do with his personality, beliefs, and temperament.

So when we hear rumblings about other celebrities like Oprah or The Rock running for President, I don’t think it’s fair to jump lump them in the same boat as Trump simply due to them being celebrities.

I’d be lying if I said that I’ve always agreed with Oprah’s views or way of doing things, but I’d also be lying if I said that her speech at the Golden Globes wasn’t more eloquent than anything Donald Trump has ever said in his life. Who knows what her politics would look like, but at least she wouldn’t sound unprofessional.

The thing about the fact that Trump managed to win the election in 2016 is that all bets could now be off when it comes to non-politicians running for President. I don’t think that necessarily should be the case, but if he can win, who knows who could be next.

I truly hope that we can some formidable competition to Trump in 2020 (*cough* Michelle Obama *cough*) because there’s going to be plenty that needs work after he’s done with this country. At the end of the day, though, I’m basically voting for anyone not named Donald Trump (assuming that he runs for a second term because if he doesn’t, I’m also not voting for anyone from the Republican party after this travesty).

Nothing can be worse than what we’re dealing now.
