Going On An Odyssey

Today is the day I start Super Mario Odyssey.

To many of you, this was probably just another Switch title that you heard a lot about. It was hyped to kingdom come upon its announcement and again at release, as is the case with any true entry to the Super Mario series. From everything I’ve heard, this is the best Super Mario game since Super Mario 64. Given the fact that 64 is my favorite Mario game, I am beyond giddy to dive into this beauty.

I have plenty of thoughts on the Mario series as a whole, but I think I’ll save most of those as background during my review in the near future once I beat the game.

My giddiness of getting into this game actually surprises me a bit since I wasn’t super gung-ho about jumping in when it was released. While I was just as hyped as everyone else when it was announced back in January, the release of other games recently have pushed this onto the backburner. Basically, I was so consumed with playing Destiny 2 on PC, I didn’t bat an eye when Odyssey came out just three days later. As I talked about yesterday, though, Destiny has lot a lot of my interest over the last month. It’s time for something new.

I haven’t played through an entire Super Mario game since the release of Super Mario Sunshine in 2002. I played a bit of Super Mario Galaxy in 2007, but it just didn’t cut it for me, and I put it down after a few hours.

After watching Trihex stream his speedruns of this game for the last couple weeks, though? I know that this is going to be a fun trip that I will surely complete. I’m even thinking about doing speedruns of my own once I finish the game and get comfortable with the mechanics.

If you want to come with me on this journey, I’ll be streaming it for the next couple weeks over on my Twitch channel.

Let’s a go!
