Challenging Myself
For the last few weeks, I’ve felt… off. Until recently, I haven’t been able to nail down exactly what the root of this feeling was. My home life is great; I’ve got a beautiful wife that I love very much and a cat that keeps me company while I work from home. I just reached Affiliate status on Twitch. Life seemed great. Then it dawned on me.
I felt stagnant in my writing.
While I write a lot as part of my job, I often feel pigeonholed in what I write. See, I write about esports and most of what I write boils down to notes on a player’s performance in a given series or a recap of what occurred during a given event. Sure, you can add some flair to try and make it your own, but there’s only so much you can really do with that format.
Basically, I may write frequently, but I don’t feel like a writer. I don’t feel as though I’m stretching my wings and letting it all hang out, so to speak. (I apologize for the visual of anything hanging out of me.)
That’s where Medium comes in.
I started this account months ago and enjoyed putting up the first few articles that I did. But then I let other responsibilities get in the way and I stopped writing. That eventually led to this stagnation that I feel.
With that in mind, I’m making a commitment to challenge myself with this space.
For the foreseeable future, I will be posting something here every day. Day in and day out, I will put some words on the paper. Whether it be a reflective piece, an opinion piece, a game review, or something else entirely.
I just want to challenge myself and help perfect my craft.
I know that I have a wealth of potential that is yet to see the light of day. There’s a well that has yet to be tapped into. So let’s get to tapping.
See you guys tomorrow.
